Commemorative Stone “Tribute to Heroism” Unveiled at Abai University in Honor of Victory Day

On May 6, 2025, a ceremonial unveiling of the commemorative stone "Tribute to Heroism" took place at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The artistic composition was installed as a sign of respect for the Heroes of the Soviet Union - Malik Gabdullin, Lesbek Zholdasov, Kanash Kamzin, Kudaibergen Suraganov, Rakhymzhan Tokatayev, Akhmediyar Kusainov, Sadu Shakirov, Yevgeny Breusov, Zholdybay Nurlybayev - as well as 114 faculty members and students of KazPI (now Abai KazNPU) who went to the front.

The monument was unveiled to immortalize in the memory of future generations the names of our heroes who showed courage and valor during the Great Patriotic War.

The event was attended by Chairman of the Board-Rector of Abai KazNPU Bolat Tlep, Deputy Head of the Department of Youth Policy of Almaty Almaz Kenesbay, members of the board including vice-rectors, faculty deans, department heads, academic staff, veteran teachers, descendants of university graduates awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, and students.

In his congratulatory speech, Chairman of the Board-Rector Bolat Tlep stated: "Until today, eight Heroes of the Soviet Union who went to the front from our university were known. But on the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory, thanks to the research work of our historians and the study of archival documents, we learned of a ninth hero who graduated from our university. With the support of our alumni, the commemorative stone has been installed. This monument is a tribute to the faculty, scholars, and students who went to the front, and a gesture of reverence for the spirit of our ancestors."

The official part of the event concluded with a concert program titled Tribute to Heroism.

It is worth noting that the commemorative stone Tribute to Heroism was installed with the support of Abai KazNPU alumnus Rakhymberdi Zhetibai. The event was organized by the university`s Department for Social and Youth Affairs.
