The history of the physical and mathematical department (now the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics) begins in 1928. He became one of the first departments of the present university and began his activity from the chair of "Engineering, Physics and Mathematics" with nine fellow workers. Professor Yermekov Alimkhan Abouuovich was a head of the chair and the department of physics and mathematics. Ermekov A.A. graduated the mining department of the Tomsk Technological Institute. Due to his individual abilities, he independently mastered mathematical science, gave lectures on higher mathematics at the institute. For the first time a textbook on higher mathematics "Mathematics courses" ("Course of higher mathematics") in Kazakh language was written by Professor Ermekov A.A.. Berdyshev. Since 2018, the dean of institute of mathematics, physics, and informatics is cand. Of physmath. science is Bekpatshaev M.Zh.
The formation of the department of Physics and Mathematics in the 30s of the last century was accompanied by certain difficulties because of the shortage of pedagogical personals. Therefore, already in 1931, the first 17 graduates of teachers for schools were promptly trained, three of which Zhylkibaev M., M. Amirbaev and Abdrakhimov E.A. have left at the institute.
Among the Kazakh Pedagogical University` graduates the most outstanding role is taken by professor O.A. Jaytikov, doctor of physmath science, honored scientist of KazSSR, Kazakh SSR State Prize winners. He was awarded an Order of the October Revolution, two Orders of the Badge of Honour, medals, and certificates of honor of Supreme Soviet of KazSSR. He substantiated the averaging principle in nonlinear mechanics with respect to countable systems of differential equations.Under his leadership, 15 candidates of science were trained, he gave much energy to organize a special Republican Physics and Mathematics School in Almaty.
In the 40s of the last century, departments of physics, mathematical analysis, higher mathematics, elementary mathematics and methods of teaching mathematicsappeared at the faculty.A number of teachers were replenished by graduates of KazPI itself and participants of the Great Patriotic War who returned to their native walls. Among them were K.A. Aymanov, I.B. Madin, T.K. Kulakhmetov, X.K. Kurmanalin and others.
At that time, Aymanov Kenzhaly Aymanovich (a graduate of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of KazPI named after Abay of 1937, a participant of the war of 19411945, after the war worked in the school (19471952), at the institute (19521963) and since 1963 the Minister of Education of the Kazakh SSR and for a long time was in high positions in the field of education), among the first physicists  methodologists began to implement it in the school number 18 and then continued his activities by invitation in KazPI named after Abay in 1952.
Despite the difficult period, at that time intensive scientific research was conducted at the faculty. Graduates who participated in the research sector began to replenish the ranks of teachers, which led to the expansion of the faculty and, as a consequence, the formation of departments of various fields. At that time the chair of "Physics" was headed by professors: Rovinsky RM, Litvinov VF.
For many years the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics has been preparing secondary school teachers in physics, mathematics and computer science. At one time in the physics and mathematics department there were departments "Physics  Chemistry", "General technical subjects and chemistry" and "Mathematics  drawing".
Now there are 4 chairs in the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics: Department of Physics; Department "Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling; Department of Informatics and Informatization of Education; Department of Methods of Teaching Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.
In the republican rating of educational programs for which the institute is preparing of students, the educational programs of mathematics, physics and computer science rank first among universities that train teachers. Specialties 5В010900Mathematics, 5В011000Physics, 5В011100Informatics, 6М010900Mathematics, 6М011000Physics, 6М011100Computer science have passed international accreditation in the agency ASIIN (Germany). At the meeting of the accreditation council of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR), a decision was taken on international specialized accreditation of the program 5В012000 and 6М012000  Professional Education.
Under the program of academic mobility, bachelors, master students and PhD are trained in Germany, Lithuania, Poland. The master students and doctoral candidates visit the universities of Russia (NSU, MSPU, KPU), Germany, Poland, Lithuania for scientific trainings. Partnershipswithforeignuniversities follow in international conferences, forums, where the ideas of our scientists are tested and disseminated, and joint international projects are born. Leading foreign professors give lectures, workshops, work as scientific advisers.
Scientific and practical conferencesare organized for bachelors, master students and PhD, on which it is possible to report their results on scientific research and further participate in republican scientific competitions. Students take prizes in republican scientific competitions and subject Olympiads, actively participate in scientific and public life of the university. Therearemanyscientific societies, sport sections, clubs of humors.
The Institute is located in a separate building. Its auditorium includes educational and lecture audiences, 10 computer classes, 12 educational laboratories of physical and technical profile, a reading room and an electronic resources hall, an assembly hall. STEMPark operates on the basis of the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.
For today, the main task of the Institute is to provide a quality education that meets the modern requirements of the labor market.
