Application for recruitment of a candidate for a vacant position


Name of vacant position:

UNESCO Chair Researcher

Main functional responsibilities of the structural unit:

- Provides advocacy for education for sustainable development and global citizenship;

- promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among faculty and staff;

- Acts as a think tank and liaison between the academic world, civil society, local communities to disseminate knowledge and practices in an area of priority for both the institution and UNESCO.

Main job responsibilities:

1. Participate in the development of the UNESCO Chair`s work plan and its implementation in line with the Abai University Development Strategy 2022-2025;

2. To assist in the development of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and in monitoring its implementation;

3. participate in the implementation of research and development results in accordance with the specialisation of the department within the SDGs;

4. prepare the necessary documentation for participation in competitions of scientific foundations and organisations to provide funding for research and development activities;

5. assist in organising and conducting scientific, scientific-methodological and scientific-practical seminars and other similar events on education for sustainable development (ESD), global citizenship, gender studies and other issues on the UNESCO agenda;

6. to prepare necessary information for the annual report on the results of the Chair`s activity to UNESCO and the National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO RK;

7. to collect the necessary package of documents for participation in UNESCO research competitions;

8. to liaise with UNESCO and the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO on education and projects;

9. ensure compliance with the rules of labour protection and safety, industrial sanitation and fire safety.

Travelling on business trips:

business trip is expected


Higher, socio-humanitarian, pedagogical, natural science degree

Required professional experience (duration, field, other)

A person with higher professional education will be appointed to the post of Specialist.

Professional Competencies:

Basic knowledge of the education system, international conventions, SDGs, UNESCO principles, intercultural competence and communication skills, business correspondence skills in English.

Personal competences and qualities:

Creativity, initiative, service-oriented, attentive, self-motivated, quick learner, ability to work in a team and independently, good organisational skills (planning and implementation), ability to work outside working hours, ability to work in a friendly and effective manner with colleagues and learners, high efficiency and ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure, understanding of the importance of communication skills and interaction, discipline

Knowledge of languages, including the state language (list of languages the candidate should be proficient in)

Fluency in Kazakh and Russian languages, English - not lower than B1

Computer skills:

advanced PC user
