Department of History of Kazakhstan in Ancient and Middle Ages
 
 

The department has established strong international connections with leading scientific and educational institutions and renowned scholars from foreign countries. The department collaborates with the University of Toronto (Canada), the National Institute of Technology, Oyama College (Japan), the University of Vienna (Austria), Ankara University (Turkey), Marmara University (Turkey), the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at St. Petersburg State University (Russia), Altai State University (Russia), the Marjani Institute (Tatarstan), M.P. Dragomanov National Pedagogical University (Ukraine), Belarusian State University (Belarus), Nukus Innovative Institute (Uzbekistan), the National Archaeology Center (Uzbekistan), and the Kyrgyz National University named after Balasagun (Kyrgyzstan).


Department faculty members actively participate in international conferences, symposia, and colloquiums. During the 2023-2024 academic year, they presented papers at several conferences abroad, including in Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, and other countries. The department`s international activities are aimed at enhancing the university`s reputation and integrating into the global education and science community.


Under the organization of the department`s faculty, the "Science Decade - 2024" hosted two significant events: the International Round Table on "The Views of Turkish Scholars on the Study of the History of the Golden Horde" (on April 10, 2024) and the Scientific-Methodological Seminar on "Methods of Teaching the History of Ancient and Medieval Kazakhstan" (on April 4, 2024).


On March 13, 2024, at the initiative of the department`s faculty, a meeting with scholar and historian, Nurlan Kenzheakhmet, was organized for students. He spoke about "The Historical Geography of Eurasia." On March 15, 2024, a lecture titled "The History of the Jochi Ulus: The Golden Horde Period" was delivered by the well-known Turkish scholar, Professor Abdullah Gündoğdu from Ankara University.


From October 16-24, 2024, to stimulate students` interest in Kazakhstan`s ancient and medieval history and the understudied field of numismatics, the department organized lectures by the famous Russian numismatist and PhD Pavel Nikolayevich Petrov.


The department`s first major event was the "Jochi Ulus: History, Heritage, and Lessons" International Scientific-Practical Conference, held on May 22, 2024, marking the 800th anniversary of the Jochi Ulus. The high-level conference saw the participation of several foreign scholars from Canada, Turkey, Ukraine, the USA, and Japan, as well as prominent Kazakhstani scholars, both online and in person. The event received extensive coverage in mass media.


In January 2025, the department organized a "Winter School" aimed at enhancing the qualifications of faculty members nationwide. The main goal of this event was to increase professional skills based on new methods and approaches in education and ensure that researchers adapt to modern educational standards.
