Abai University Professor Explores Ways to Integrate Media Education Practices into Educational Content

 

From March 12 to 14, 2025, a seminar titled "Integrating Media and Information Literacy into General Education Content" was held in Astana. The event was organized by the Y. Altynsarin National Academy of Education and the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty.

 

Among the participants was Aiman Berikhanova, Acting Head of the UNESCO Chair at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Head of the Center for Pedagogical Innovations and Action Research, and a research professor.

 

The seminar served as a dialogue platform for discussing innovative ideas and successful international practices in media education, key challenges in media and information literacy (MIL), strategies for integrating MIL into general education curricula, and global trends in Kazakhstan`s digital transformation.

 

Key speakers included Ruslan Karatabanov, Vice President of the Y. Altynsarin National Academy of Education, along with experts from the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty: Meirgul Alpysbayeva, Madjer Masanov, Aichurek Usupbaeva (Kyrgyzstan), Mikhail Cherny (Czech Republic), Tatiana Ivanova (Ukraine), Tatiana Yurchenko (Almaty, Kazakhstan), and Aya Muffmin (Astana, Kazakhstan).

 

As part of the seminar, experienced journalists and media trainers Tatiana Golubtsova and Meiramkhan Japek provided participants with an in-depth overview of MIL research and conducted interactive facilitation sessions. Additionally, they led practical workshops incorporating gamification elements and collaborative motivational technologies.

 

The discussion platform enabled participants to gain new knowledge in media education, establish professional connections, and exchange experiences. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants were awarded certificates.
