07.04.2025 “Science Week” has kicked off at Abai University Today, the opening ceremony of the traditional Science Week was held at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University as part of the celebration of the 180th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev.
The event was attended by the university administration, faculty deans, academic staff, the Council of Young Researchers, scientific personnel, and active students.
Rector of the university, Bolat Tlep, delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony. He emphasized that the launch of Science Week coincides with the 180th anniversary of the great poet, educator, and thinker Abai Kunanbayev.
"Universities across the country are tasked with advancing academic science. Of course, science is not a matter of a day, a month, or even a year. It is a continuous effort and a powerful potential that defines the daily life of our university. Today, our university has established itself in the scientific sphere, achieving a number of successes in the fields of education and science. The traditionally organized Science Week is marked by its own unique features each year. This year`s opening is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great poet, educator, and thinker Abai Kunanbayev.
In addition, a Scientific and Innovation Park, developed over the past year, will be inaugurated at the university. Several new laboratories will be launched within this park. These facilities will allow future educators and researchers to master digital learning technologies and engage in innovative projects. With its 100-year history, our university possesses a strong scientific potential. Our current goal is to further develop and preserve this potential through continuity. Of course, this largely depends on supporting young scientists. That is why around 120 large- and small-scale events are scheduled during this year`s Science Week, aimed at encouraging students` involvement in research and inspiring scientific inquiry. Each of these events is highly significant. Among them are international scientific-practical conferences, competitions for young scientists, seminars and training sessions, a series of lectures by international experts, and TED-style talks. I would also like to highlight the dynamic work of laboratories under the ‘Abai Labs` Scientific and Innovation Park. As part of today`s ceremony, we will officially open a new laboratory from the `Abai Labs` park," said the rector.
As part of the event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new VR/AR Technologies in Education Laboratory, established within the Abai Labs Scientific and Innovation Park. This marks an important step in the development of modern educational technologies. The laboratory is designed to integrate the latest virtual and augmented reality technologies into the learning process.
Furthermore, under the scientific supervision of academician Mambet Koigeldiev of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, a 12-volume collection titled "The Case of Alashorda. 1920-1940s: Documents and Materials" has been prepared. Other events include a scholarly seminar titled "The Legacy of Abai - a Spiritual Treasure," the Abai Innovation Fest (an exhibition of innovative projects and startups), as well as various academic and methodological seminars and lectures dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev.
It is worth noting that events aimed at developing the university`s scientific potential will continue until April 14. During this period, approximately 120 events will be organized, including meetings with scientists and researchers from domestic and international universities, scientific-practical conferences, competitions among young scientists, seminars and training sessions, lecture series by international experts, and TED-style talks.
