A Corner of Turkic Literature Opened at Abai University
A solemn opening ceremony for the Corner of Turkic Literature was held at the Scientific Library of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, supported by the Turkish Historical Society. The initiative aims to promote the rich history and culture of the Turkic peoples and to build a spiritual bridge between civilizations through scientific works and literary pieces. The collection offers readers the opportunity to explore a world full of historical events and cultural milestones.
The opening ceremony, part of the `History of the Turkic World` program, aspires to become a gathering place for those interested in the history and culture of the Turkic world. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by Mr. Ayhan Korkmaz, Education Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Kazakhstan; Mr. Yüksel Özgen, President of the Turkish Historical Society; and Dr. Ertay Sultan, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of Abai University.
Dr. Ertay Sultan opened the ceremony with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the significance of this new space in fostering education and science. Mr. Ayhan Korkmaz expressed his deep respect for the Kazakh people and gratitude to the university for providing a special platform. `Abai is a figure of shared pride across the entire Turkic world,` he stated, adding that the choice of Abai University was intentional and meaningful. He invited students to join free Turkish language courses and announced a plan to send Abai University faculty to Türkiye for an 8-month exchange program next year.
During the event, Ms. Nurgul Zhailaukyzy, Director of the Scientific Library, introduced the guests to the library`s `paradise for book lovers` and described the new literature corner as a symbol of spiritual cooperation between the two nations. Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Dr. Alua Tanjarykova, also shared plans for upcoming joint scientific and cultural projects.
At the end of the ceremony, guests were presented with souvenirs featuring the image of the great thinker Abai, and the event concluded with a cultural program.
It is worth noting that the Turkish Historical Society donated 1,080 historical and cultural works to the university`s library collection. An additional 2,500 books are planned to be gifted next year. Initiatives like this are sure to strengthen the friendship and cultural collaboration between the brotherly nations.
