International research internship of Abai University doctoral student at George Washington University

On September 15, 2025, third-year PhD student in Russian Language and Literature at Abai University, Zhadyra Smailova, began her international research internship at George Washington University (USA). The internship is hosted by the Elliott School of International Affairs, Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies.

As part of the program, Zhadyra Smailova is working on her doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Professor Peter Rollberg, a distinguished Slavic scholar, film critic, and media researcher at George Washington University. Professor Rollberg`s academic interests include the works of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Nabokov, Bulgakov, as well as the history of Russian, German, and Soviet Kazakh cinema.

The dissertation research of the PhD student focuses on the interaction between literature and cinema, exploring the reception of literary texts in the interdisciplinary context of literature and the arts.
