ANNUAL REVIEW: WHICH SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS WERE IMPLEMENTED?

 

In one of his Words of Edification, Hakim Abai left the following precept: “At least once a day, if not once a week, if not once a month, hold yourself accountable”. With the arrival of the new year, we look back to assess the work accomplished. This annual review of Abai University, named after the great poet, is dedicated to the scientific projects implemented at our institution. Below is an overview of the projects carried out over the year.

 

In the current year, 100 scientific projects are being successfully implemented at Abai University with grant funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Of these, 54 projects are financed through grant funding, and 3 projects through program-targeted funding. In addition, 43 scientific projects are being implemented using the university is own funds (small incentive grants). These activities are aimed at developing the university is internal scientific potential, supporting young researchers, and stimulating scientific initiatives.

 

It should be noted that 5 international scientific projects are being implemented in cooperation with leading higher education institutions in Italy, France, China, and Spain. These projects are intended to enhance the university is scientific and innovative potential, expand academic partnerships, and conduct joint research at the international level, as well as to prepare high-quality scientific publications for indexing in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.

 

In addition, 11 integrative scientific projects are being carried out jointly with national research institutes. Funding has been provided for 12 projects aimed at strengthening the scientific capacity of the faculty and staff, as well as 15 projects focused on increasing the scientific independence of young researchers and developing new scientific areas.

 

In the field of commercialization of the results of scientific and scientific-technical activities, the project titled “Innovative Production of Environmentally Friendly Glossy Window Sills Using the Co-Extrusion Method from PVC-Based Composite Materials with the Application of YBCO Modifiers” (DP21682051) is being implemented this year under a joint agreement between Abai University and Keruen Plus LLP. The developed product has already been introduced into production at Keruen Plus LLP and has begun to yield practical results.

 

In 2025, 15 startup projects are being implemented within the framework of the “Zhas Kasipker Abai University” competition. During the year, three startup competitions aimed at supporting entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative ideas were held at the university. This contributed to the creation of a unified platform bringing together students, faculty members, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

 

At Abai University, research and project activities are systematically carried out within the framework of the professor-researcher position and the postdoctoral program. In 2025, 16 professors-researchers and 21 postdoctoral fellows conducted scientific research, making a continuous contribution to the university is scientific development. They serve as scientific supervisors and project executors within grant and program-targeted funding provided by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, within the framework of international cooperation, they conduct joint research and prepare scientific publications indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, which contributes to enhancing the university is scientific reputation and recognition in the international academic community.

 

In the future, systematic efforts will continue to expand the scope of research activities, strengthen international partnerships, and increase the volume of grant funding. A total of 100 applications were submitted to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for grant funding of scientific and scientific-technical projects for 2026–2028. Of these, 53 projects were submitted by faculty members to the general grant funding competition, 14 projects to the competition for young researchers, and 33 applications under the “Zhas Galym” program.

 

In addition, 11 applications were submitted to the Council for Science and Technology established under the Akimat of Almaty on scientific areas related to environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, energy, transport and ecology, digital and space technologies, as well as the country is intellectual potential. The results of the competitions will be announced at the beginning of the new year. Scholars of Abai University have high expectations for these competitions.
