RISK MANAGEMENT AS PART OF UNIVERSITY PRACTICE

At Abai University, risk management is becoming an integral part of everyday university practice. Risk management is moving beyond the framework of formal reporting and is viewed as an effective tool that supports well-balanced managerial decision-making and ensures the university is sustainable development. Within the walls of this esteemed educational institution, a training and practical seminar titled “Risk Management at the University” was held.

The seminar was organized at the initiative of the Strategy Department and became a continuation of systematic efforts aimed at forming a unified approach to risk management at all levels of the university structure. Participants included academic and administrative management staff responsible for making managerial decisions and bearing responsibility for their outcomes, specifically heads and employees of structural units, faculties, and departments.

The seminar program was designed in a practice-oriented format. Discussions focused on the connection between risks and the university is strategic goals, timely identification of uncertainty factors, and the use of risk analysis as a basis for managerial decision-making. Special attention was given to understanding risk not as a threat, but as a guideline that encourages conscious and timely action.

The event also included practical activities. During group tasks, participants developed skills in identifying and structuring risks using the MECE principle. Application of this principle made it possible to systematize risk factors without duplication or omissions. Work based on specific goals and indicators ensured that risk management issues were considered at the level of applied managerial decisions.

The training and practical seminar demonstrated the relevance of improving risk management mechanisms within the university is governance system. It also became an important step toward enhancing the quality of managerial decisions and ensuring the university is sustainable development.
