Professor T. Dalaeva will give a lecture

At the site of the University of Central Asia, the Aga Khan Humanities Project continues the cycle of Open Online Lectures by famous scientists, educators, experts on the thematic block: "Interdisciplinary discourse in the context of humanitarian and natural science research".

As part of this series, Tenlik Dalaeva, Professor at the T.S. Sadykov Institute of History and Law, Abai KazNPU (Almaty, Kazakhstan), will deliver a public lecture on "Visualisation of the History of Kazakhstan: Sources, Research Methods and Interpretation".

Researchers in the 20th century turned their attention to visual information, which combines information about the surrounding world in all its diverse manifestations in an encoded form.

Audiovisual sources are in demand today in historical research. Such scientific areas as visual anthropology, visual studies, visual history, historical reconstructions have gained relevance. In the era of digitalization, scientists are increasingly turning to the visual embodiment of life in the images of the past and the outlines of the future. We can say that history today is filled with images of each era, the study of which is aimed at understanding the ways of their reconstruction and representation, and, consequently, visualization in order to present the general public.

What stories and cultural plots are encoded in visual sources? What can a picture, photograph, film tell a historian? How to understand, at first glance, obvious visual images? Answers to these and other questions will be presented at the lecture.

Open lecture will be held on March 31, 2023 at 16.00 (Almaty time, Kazakhstan)
