The Russian Language and Literature Department, keeping traditions, works in a new way The Russian Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Philology of Abai KazNPU is a graduating specialist in educational programmes of three levels: bachelor`s - master`s - doctoral studies. These are: "6B(7M,8D)01702 - Russian language and literature", "6B(7M,8D)01705 - Russian language and literature in schools with non-Russian language of instruction", "6B(7M)02301 - Philology", "7M(8D)02304 - Linguistics", "7M(8D)02305 - Literary studies". In the 2024-2025 academic year 540 bachelors (including 45 foreign students from Turkmenistan), 17 master`s and 16 doctoral students are studying in all department specialities. In total - 573 people. The history of the department was formed from the glorious traditions of the philological faculty with its 90-year history and the names of outstanding Kazakh philologists of the XX century: D.T.Tursunov, M.S.Silchenko, N.S.Smirnova, G.S.Amirov and others. The offices of professors A.L.Zhovtis and L.A. Shelyakhovskaya were opened in the department; they were the teachers of many present department employees. Today 48 people work here (8 Doctors of Sciences, 16 candidates of sciences, 7 PhD doctors and 17 Masters of Education), among them 8 holders of the grant "The best teacher of the university", 3 - winners of the competition of State scientific scholarships, 8 - holders of Bolashak scholarship. Young scientist A.U. Baibolov is a member of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Professor S.D. Abisheva, a graduate of Abai KazPI, heads the department. In the department, there is the dissertation council on the defence of dissertations on awarding the degree "Doctor of Philosophy" (PhD) on speciality 8D011800/01702 - Russian language and literature. Employees of the Russian Language and Literature Department are well known in the country and abroad as scientists-philologists, creators of linguistic and literary schools that determine the development of branch science in Kazakhstan in the context of modern theoretical and applied philology, authors of MOOC (Doctor of Philology, Professor Safronova L.V.). The label of the department is the international scientific-theoretical conference "Problems of Poetics and Poetry Studies" held ten times from 2003 to 2024. And also the four-volume book "The Artistic World of Literature of Kazakhstan", and the annual scientific almanac "LingvLit". Teachers of the department are authors of school and university textbooks. There are 2 scientific projects of the state financing supervised by S.D. Abisheva, G.J. Bayshukurova; 4 projects "Zhas galym" (Young scientist) supervised by J.S. Sametova, B.S. Baizhigit, E. T. Zhanysbekova. T. Zhanysbekova, M.B. Moldagali); the project for young scientists (supervisor is D.A. Sabirova); the university project "History in Fates and Faces: Outstanding Scientists of Abai University" (2024). The department members participated in the international project Erasmus+ "KazDUAL - Introduction of the dual system in Kazakhstan" (2020-2023). The International Project on the Grant of the Rector of Abai KazNPU was implemented jointly with the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University, Moscow) for three years. According to the rating of the NAAR 2024, the 1st place among the universities of the republic was taken by EP (education programme) 6B017 - Training of the Russian Language and Literature Teachers and EP 7M018 - Training of the Russian Language and Literature Teachers. The 2nd place was taken by EP 8D017 - Preparation of the Russian Language and Literature Teachers. IQAA Rating 2024: EP 6B017 - Training of the Russian Language and Literature Teachers took the 2nd place. EP 7M018 - Training of the Russian Language and Literature teachers took the 1st place. The winners of the Presidential Scholarship 2024 - Bachelors D. Temirbekova, J. Serikkalieva, R. Makhanbet, Ұ. Nurylla, D. Serikova. Winners of the Presidential Scholarship of different years among undergraduates - M. Ponomarenko, Z. Ospanova, R. Zhakenova, M. Abdullaeva. The department has close ties with the Russian House in Almaty and international relations with the leading scientific and educational centres of the CIS countries (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia) and far abroad (USA, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Japan, Turkey, Italy, Holland, Lithuania, Finland, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic). Teachers of the department undergo scientific internships in foreign universities. The department has developed the institute of visiting professorships: every year the leading scientists-philologists of the world come to give lectures (A.K. Kiklevich, V.P. Sinyachkin, U.M. Bakhtikireeva, M.S. Kostyukhina, J. Vojvodich, J. Vezbinski and others). Professors of the department present lectures as visiting professors in Russia, Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain, the USA, the Czech Republic, etc. They actively participate in international conferences and projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. They are also members of editorial boards in domestic and international journals. They give lectures to teachers` improvement training courses around the city and region. They constantly participate in the jury of contests like Olympiads for schoolchildren of Almaty and other cities of Kazakhstan, rural schools. They act as leaders of scientific projects for schoolchildren. The department carries out a lot of work in schools in Almaty and Almaty region, with which cooperation agreements are drawn up. The Russian Language and Literature Department has branches in four schools in Almaty and Almaty region: Gymnasium No. 35, Sh. Ualikhanov Specialised Gymnasium No. 12, I. Khalipov General Education Secondary School No. 1 in Talgar, a small school, state-owned enterprise (SOE) "Aitzhan Turkebayev school lyceum with a preschool mini-centre" in the village, Saty, Almaty region. The department has achieved great success in developing the student`s academic mobility. 4 students of our speciality in 2024-2025 academic years in the framework of academic mobility study in the 2nd year at the Palacky University in Olomouc (Czech Republic). Thanks to the agreement on a two-diploma programme between Abai University and the Pomeranian University of Słupsk (Poland), 15 European diplomas were obtained from 2018 to 2024. In the 2024-2025 academic year, 7 students from Abai University are studying at Pomeranian University offline on a two-diploma programme and 12 students will complete their studies online. Master`s and doctoral students at this foreign university carry out planned internships. Pomeranian University hosts the Abai Centre for Culture and Science headed by Maxim Ponomarenko, a graduate of the Bachelor`s and Master`s degrees of Abai KazNPU, PhD of Pomeranian Academy. The department conducts a variety of social and educational work. Students, masters and doctoral candidates actively participate in scientific work and public life in the faculty of philology and the university. The Department successfully runs the Local History Circle and the Literary Lounge. Thanks to the latter, the department held poetry evenings devoted to the city of Almaty, Family Day, outstanding philologists of Abai KazNPU and the works of S. Seyfullin, and B. Mailin. Poetry lovers in September-December 2024 visited museums of outstanding Kazakh poets in online mode. The work of the "School of Young Educators", under the guidance of doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor G.A. Kazhigalieva introduces a new generation of philological talents and has become traditional. In May 2024, the Pomeranian University hosted the sixth traditional International Abai Readings: Philosophy, Poetics, Reception".
