«Developing Functional Literacy: Innovative Methods in Natural Science Subjects» Regional Conference


On March 28, 2025, a regional conference on the topic «Developing Functional Literacy: Innovative Methods in Natural Science Subjects» was held at the Chemistry Department branch, at School No. 39 in Talgar District.

 

The conference was attended by prominent scientists from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography, as well as master teachers from Almaty region.

 

Professor Nurlan Akhmetov presented a report on «Relevant Aspects of Teaching Classical Chemistry in Modern Theory and Methodology». In his report, he addressed the main points of the theory and methodology of teaching classical chemistry, emphasizing the importance of combining fundamental knowledge with modern pedagogical approaches. He also focused on issues such as developing interdisciplinary connections, fostering students` scientific thinking, and integrating digital resources into the learning process.

 

During the event, Professor Nesiphan Bektenov made an insightful presentation on the topic of school students` research projects. He discussed the main principles of scientific work, highlighting the relevance of the topic and the importance of the practical orientation of the project.

 

Professor Kalampyr Zhumagulova presented a report on the characteristics and relevance of tasks aimed at developing functional literacy. She emphasized that such tasks help students develop skills in analysis, critical thinking, applying knowledge in real-life situations, and making decisions based on real-world contexts.

 

Senior Lecturer Onlasyn Kulumbetova presented a report on «Effective Methods of Developing Students` Functional Literacy.» In her speech, she thoroughly analyzed the application of differentiated learning technology based on the works of N.P. Guzik, Zh. Karayev, and G.G. Erkybaeva. This technology allows for the gradual development of students` knowledge from the basic to the creative level, considering individual characteristics.
