Regular Meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO Affairs


On May 16, 2025, a regular meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO Affairs was held at the United Nations Office in Almaty, with the participation of Gulnaz Khamidollayevna Sarsenbayeva, a leading specialist at the UNESCO Chair for Pedagogy and Teacher Training at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University.


The Chair of the National Commission, Yerlan Karin, highlighted a number of accomplished and planned initiatives. In particular, he noted that out of the 21 tasks approved by UNESCO and ISESCO last year, 18 have already been completed, while the remaining ones are currently underway.

 

These include:
 The inclusion of the national ritual "Betashar" in UNESCO`s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (a certificate was awarded);
 The inclusion of the manuscript "Khans` Genealogy" in the UNESCO Memory of the World International Register;
 Ongoing efforts to nominate the underground mosques of Mangystau for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List;
 Revitalization of the scientific center focused on conducting climate research;
 Continued preservation efforts for the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi;
 Preparations for celebrating the 100th anniversary of Nurgisa Tlendiyev at UNESCO headquarters in Paris;
 Active participation and support for the 43rd session of UNESCO to be held in Samarkand.


In addition, participants of the meeting listened to and discussed reports on cultural and natural heritage, science, and education.
