A day in the archive: facing history up close

First-year graduate students from the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Kazakhstan named after Academician T. S. Sadykov of the Faculty of History and Law had a valuable and engaging experience at the Central State Archive of Kazakhstan. During the scientific excursion, they met with archivists, learned about the structure of the archive, and discovered the available research opportunities. Students explored newly declassified collections and worked with rare materials related to the topic of repressions. This event, organized by the faculty Nurman Sh. T., Baisalbayeva T. M., the management and staff of the archive Zhylysbaeva M. G., Shalabayeva A. B., Kabdush K. allowed future historians to grasp the importance of primary sources and opened up new possibilities for their academic research. Through the research visit to the archive, students were convinced that the archive is not only a place to store documents, but also an invaluable resource for a deep understanding of the past and conducting new historical research.
