Creative Meeting with Poet and Translator Kairat Zhanabayev at KazNPU

On 17 February 2025, the Russian Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Philology of Abai KazNPU organised a meeting with Kairat Zhanabaev, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of Al-Farabi KazNU, poet-translator of ancient, medieval and modern poetry of Abai, researcher of ancient oral poetic tradition of Turkic peoples.

The creative meeting was especially significantly decorated by the head of the Department of Russian Language and Literature, Professor, Doctor of Philological Sciences Saule Dzhunusovna Abisheva, who opened the event with her presence and her welcoming speech. She shared her vivid memories of the outstanding scientists who formed the scientific traditions of her native department: about A.L. Zhovtis, about H.A. Adibaev, about N.S. Smirnova and about other remarkable professors of our Kazakh philological science, and about the star graduates of this historical department: Tursunov and Kostyukhin, who left their bright trace in the world folkloristics.

The translator performed poems and translations by Makhambet Utemisov, Magzhan Zhumabaev, Pushkin, Catullus, Ovid, Horace and other authors of Kazakh, Russian and world classical poetry in different languages. The students learnt a lot about the language and style of national Kazakh poetry, about the tragic fate of the great Kazakh poet Magzhan Zhumabaev and his fruitful contacts with the best representatives of Russian symbolism, about the attitude to him of V. Y. Brusov, O. E. Mandelstam, Maxim Gorky and other important facts from the lives of famous poets.

At the end of the meeting poet-translator Kairat Zhanabaev presented his books to the staff of the department and the best students, participants and winners of scientific conferences and Olympiads. The author also presented the fundamental "Poetic Dictionary of formulaic units: the language of Zhyrau XV-XVIII centuries" to the chair. At the end of the meeting the students, teachers and the guest of the event were photographed and wished each other success in labour and comprehension of knowledge.
