The Department of Geography and Ecology has competent human resources, with their help, scientific and methodological assistance is provided to students, undergraduates, doctoral students of the department. The department employs 36 employees of them: 4 doctors of science, 11 candidates of science, 8 PhD, 3 associate professors of KazNPU named after Abai and 9 masters.

The teaching staff, carrying out a lot of educational and methodological work with students of the institute and university, conduct training sessions using innovative methods of work. The institute has educational, lecture and specialized classrooms (Sh. Valikhanov`s office) and a scientific and methodological center for geography and ecology. In the suburbs of Kapshagai, in the recreation area "KazNPU named after Abai" - the main base of the university for the passage of students-geographers and environmentalists of educational field practices.

The teaching staff traditionally participate in the development of the educational and methodological base of the institute. They publish textbooks, monographs, manuals for students, schoolchildren and teachers of the republic.

The research work of the teaching staff is carried out in areas and individual topics, which are the basis for the study of issues of physical, socio-economic, regional geography, geographic and environmental problems, recreational geography and tourism development.

The department works in current areas of research, many projects are being implemented.

During the reporting period, the faculty of the department published 119 articles, including:

- articles published in journals recommended by the Committee for Control in the Sphere of Education and Science RK - 22;
- in other journals of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 24;
- abstracts of scientific conferences, non-CIS countries - 5,

- Abstracts of scientific conferences published in the Republic of Kazakhstan - 36;

15 textbooks have been published, including: textbooks, educational and teaching aids for schools of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 1; textbooks for universities - 5, educational and teaching aids for universities - 7. Monographs - 2.

Innovativeness of scientific projects
The prospects and innovativeness of the above areas of research are due to the fact that as a result of the study, methodological foundations for the use of GIS technologies in teaching geography are developed, methodological foundations for the formation of cartographic competence of future teachers of geography are developed, the effect of soil salinity on the conditions for growing crops is determined, and a space method for predicting yields is being developed. . Also, research is being carried out to achieve the goals of sustainable development, in particular in the field of training and retraining of teachers of geography.
