Report on the international seminar "Culture of Traditional Festivals in China"

On March 6, 2025, at 15:00, an international seminar organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Sinology on the topic "Culture of Traditional Chinese Festivals" was held at the Philological Faculty of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University in Almaty, at 25 Zhambyl Street.

The seminar was attended by specially invited Professor Sho Lonwei from Xinan University (People`s Republic of China), the director of Zerdesh School, Maryasha Tleubayeva, a representative of Tamos Education International School, Aidarazhy Zhasan, lecturers from the International Kazakh-Chinese Language College, as well as lecturers and students of Abai KazNPU.

The seminar was opened with a welcoming speech by Alua Tandzharikova, Dean of the Philological Faculty of Abai KazNPU. During the seminar, Professor Sho Lonwei delivered a lecture on "Culture of Traditional Chinese Festivals", introducing the audience to the major traditional Chinese celebrations: Chinese New Year (Spring Festival, Chūnjié), Lantern Festival ( Yuánxiāo jié), Qingming Festival (Qīngmíng jié), Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhōngqiū jié), Dragon Boat Festival ( Duānwǔ jié), Double Seventh Festival (Qīxī jié).

The discussion covered the significance of each festival in Chinese culture, interesting facts, and unique ways of celebration. The lecture was particularly informative and engaging for both lecturers and students studying the Chinese language.

Professor Sho Lonwei also engaged with students, answering their questions.

In the concluding part of the seminar, the director of Zerdesh School, Maryasha Tleubayeva, the representative of Tamos Education International School, Aidarazhy Zhasan, and lecturers from the International Kazakh-Chinese Language College delivered congratulatory speeches. They emphasized the importance of such events and offered students the opportunity to undertake Chinese language internships at their educational institutions.

The seminar was held at a high level, contributing to the strengthening of international cooperation and deepening knowledge of Chinese culture among students and lecturers.
