N.A. Atygaev is one of the leading researchers in the country in the field of medieval history and culture of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. He is the author of more than 170 scientific publications on the medieval history of Eurasia. Among them are three monographic studies: "The Kazakh Khanate in the Flow of History. Essays", "The Kazakh Khanate: Essays on the History of Foreign Policy in the 15th-17th Centuries", and "Money on the Silk Road (Territory of Kazakhstan, 13th-14th Centuries)". Over the past five years, he has published more than 50 scientific works. Twelve of N.A. Atygaev`s scientific articles have been published in internationally ranked scientific journals included in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. His research has been published in countries near and far abroad, including Turkey, China, the Russian Federation, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, and others.
Under the leadership of N.A. Atygaev, two targeted funding scientific programs and three grant-funded scientific projects have been successfully implemented. In 2024, he was awarded the title of "Best Researcher of 2024". Currently, Professor N.A. Atygaev is the scientific supervisor of the MNVO megagrant. N.A. Atygaev also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific-practical journal "MUSEUM.KZ" of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
